The Queensland vehicle rebate is closed

The Queensland Zero Emission Vehicle Rebate Scheme, administered by QRIDA, closed to new applications on 2 September 2024. It was a rebate on the purchase of an eligible new electric vehicle — it was never a home charger rebate. The charging infrastructure scheme is also closed, and was for public sites

QRIDA's Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Scheme closed stage two applications on 6 February 2023, with no further funding rounds planned. It co-funded publicly accessible fast-charging sites, and its guidelines explicitly excluded private charging that was not for public access — including apartment charging for residents' private use. So is there a home charger rebate in Queensland right now?

As things stand, no Queensland government rebate is open for installing a home EV charger. Be cautious with claims you may see elsewhere: retailer or third-party discount offers are sometimes presented as government rebates, and they are not the same thing. Check qld.gov.au and qrida.qld.gov.au for the current position before you rely on any figure, including the ones on this page.

• QRIDA (qrida.qld.gov.au) — the administrator of Queensland's EV schemes and the authoritative source on their status
• Queensland Government (qld.gov.au) — for any new or replacement state scheme
• Energex, your local electricity distributor on the Gold Coast — for network-run EV tariff or controlled-load arrangements
• Your electricity retailer — some offer their own EV plans or once-off incentives; these are commercial offers, not government rebates
• Australian Government pages — for federal measures such as fringe benefits tax treatment of eligible vehicles

Tariffs are usually the bigger lever here

With no charger rebate open, what you pay per kilometre on the Gold Coast comes down to your electricity plan. Queensland retailers offer time-of-use and EV-specific plans, and controlled load arrangements such as Tariff 33 exist, but eligibility and rates vary by retailer, distributor and connection.
